Ne-Yo Discusses Beyonce’s Writing Credits On ‘The Breakfast Club’

Written by TriniTrent | Filed under Beyonce,Ne-Yo
    Ne-Yo Breakfast Club TheLavaLizard

    Ne-Yo visits ‘The Breakfast Club’.

The music industry is packed with several artists who exaggerate about their abilities, particularly regarding the rare art of songwriting. One individual who has long been accused of simply buying her way into the the writing credits of her songs is Beyonce, and Ne-Yo addressed those claims on ‘The Breakfast Club’.

Discussing their monster hit song ‘Irreplaceable’ and the fact that Beyonce often takes credit for writing the song, Ne-Yo made it clear that she only wrote the background harmonies. However, he did insist that Beyonce’s work was a key aspect of the songwriting process because she helped to make the song even better than its original composition.

Also among the list of topics discussed by Ne-Yo were the direction of his upcoming ‘R.E.D.’ album and his role as an executive at Motown Records. Additionally, adding to his previous statements on ‘The Angie Martinez Show’, he shut down claims that he has abandoned his R&B roots in favour of Pop music.

Watch Ne-Yo’s interview with ‘The Breakfast Club’ below:

I wonder how many other songs on which Beyonce’s name appears so prominently in the credits were written by other people and she simply tacked on a few harmonies so that she could land a slot on the bill? Everybody wants to be a writer but nobody wants to do the work.

    Thoughts?

So out of all the things said in the interview, Beyonce’s writing credits was what you took out?
Honestly everyone knows Matthew taught Bey some shady business skills so why does it matter? She did the same thing with Halo and her version sounds completely different than the demo

Also I thought it was real interesting on his take of R&B’s decline and Trey Songz problems in finding success.

    • Cranberry

^ So just because everyone knows about it, it makes it okay? I guess…

    • Fleur

*looks at GIF and walks out*

    • SuperCi

I love how this site keeps it real about Beyonce. Somebody needs to take back this fake bitch’s Grammys

    • Bailey

She’s acknowledged the fact that some songs she never originally wrote and that she had an input on harmonies, etc. She has never taken the credit for writing a song. I Miss You and I Was Here are prime examples. I wish ppl wld actually take the time out to pay attention to what the hell she says and the song credits on her albums.

    • maya

@Bailey What do you expect from this site when it comes to Beyonce!

    • Tired

Why can’t we see his eyes though… Oh Ne-Yo!

    • larry

how dare she, she just did harmonies now shes collecting 25% of one of her best songs! smh
Thats probz how she played Jasmine sullivan

    • Ugh

      rihanna does the same thing…..lmao

    • Girrrl

The problem is.when she wins grammys for songwriting. The grammys needs to have the same rule as the Oscars for winning songwriting awards. They require that the person write a significant portion of the song to get the award and they weren’t afraid to shut Beyonce out of getting nominated for Listen.

    • Me.

It’s about time someone said something! I’m sick of her delusional stans trying to claim she’s this amazing songwriter when the fact is she only writes a small portion of a lot of her songs. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE most of Bey’s songs but I hate seeing people take credit they don’t deserve.

    • Juewelz03

It’s just like Beyonce winning that award for the music video … She was in it yes . But it was her brother in laws work. Of course she had input . But that’s about it .

    • shane

neyo no one cares about neyo ! does he have stans . im still waiting from him to come out

    • olivia

trent been on the writing credit ish since that grape juice wth why is he so pressed over it .Will this affect your life no so why you care so much about it does it’s like he nit picks every single thing the girl does he reminds me of keri hilson. The probably way more people in the industry that does this but you always come after her.

    • Dee

      Beyonce ain’t shit. The end.

    • Hugo

Who the fuck actually cares? Beyoncé’s paid for life, she can retire now and she’ll get money for her songs, she’s an extremely clever business women. And Trent get laid, get some fresh air, stop being jelous, Beyoncé is and will continue winning.

      : 0 )

    • Kelvin

Like many artist beyonce takes a song that may not have been her original idea but she makes it into her own i.e writing the harmonies, erasing a few lines adding a few lines and etc she has already stated that before and tbh Noone wants  to sing a song they have no connection to. Its like fashion a million designers can make a pair of leggings but everyone will be different. No artist writes their own song if that was the case why are so many names on the writing credits?…k

    • Girrrl

There are plenty of artists who write their whole albums ie Robin Thicke r Kelly prince mj mariah etc. Others who couldn’t didn’t lie about it.the music industry.just doesn’t have mainstream integrity anymore

    • FOLLOW ME @gdboyratedloud

Lol but she actually has writing credits for I Miss You. smh

    • Beygone

This bitch thinks being in the same room as the people who actually write her songs qualifies her as a song writer. Shes a thief who is DESPERATE to become a legend.

    • mobwife

Neyo sit down! The fools at defscam records dictate when you cd is dropping like brandy and errbody else player..

    • DJ

Out of this whole video you just point out thing about Beyonce. I swear Trent always does this, always has something negative to say about her. Just like he talks about her stans, he’s always so ready for criticize her. Someone who dislikes Beyonce but knows everything about her, yep that’s him which are most Beyonce haters.

    • mobwife

STFU Neyoshe! There is nothing wrong with R&B! I hate a follower. R&B is suffering because those in control of the music industry has starved and drained R&B of its resources. Pop, Country and Rap are the only priority genres in music and this fool knows it.

    • Robert

Well doesn’t every singer do that? I mean we can go back in time, and see Whitney Houston did not write all her songs. Rihanna doesn’t write her songs. So what point is he trying to say? That’s like me saying oh Trent got most of his news from rap-up which is true.

    • Me

Trent is a hypocrite and just like every other blogger or person that he puts down. Funny how you always go searching for shade on Beyonce but YOU claim she is irrelevant.

    • Ms. Boss

@Me when did Trent EVER say Beyonce was irrelevant? I’ll wait.

    • Bee

@Robert: The problem is not that she does not write her own songs, but that she allegedly takes the credit for writing songs that she simply didn’t write. That’s a lack of integrity.

“Well doesn’t every singer do that?” Nope, quite a few singers are also very talented songwriters.

    • Benron

@Robert and all the other Bey stans

Keep Rihanna’s name on your mouth. She has co-writing credits and throughout the 7 years she has been claiming so NOBODY has said she was lying, or manipulating anybody. Wonder why nobody even beleives Bey for a minute.

    • Tahj M.

I’d rather get caught exaggerating my involvement in writting a hit single than getting caught lipsynsing ‘cuz i’m UNable to deliver live ( …and not even because i can’t sing & dance, cause we all know, watching this bitch try to dance is cringe worthy ) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv4cWcYRIdQ
      #StopSingingMyPartNowBabyyyyy

    • 411

There are many artists who can sing and write really well…. Examples: Maxwell, Jill Scott, MJ, Stevie Wonder, Ne-Yo, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, R. Kelly. <===== These artists have written/co-written all of their material. However, Beyonce is NOT one of them!

Also, Rihanna and Whitney have never taken credit for something they did not do. If Beyonce would stop lying so much and trying to fool people into thinking she does everything, she would not get criticized some much for her blatant plagiarism. Beyonce not only steals songs, but videos as well. This is why people will never take her seriously as a songwriter. Beyonce has been caught in so many lies that only her "Beyhive" believes everything she says……..

    • MC

I agree with you @411 there are many talented artists that write their songs and you don’t see them getting caught lying about it. Its true that Whitney didn’t write or co-write her songs, but then again she never claimed song credits…no one is asking Beyonce to be it all, she needs to stop taking song writing credits.

    • Inc.

      @411

No one takes her “seriously as a songwriter” and that’s why she’s won awards for her songwriting, right?

    • Robert

Actually, I just found out this issue was dealt with already, and it occurred about 2 years ago, and Trent got his ass told off! And guess who told him off… Theskorpionshow. If you look for Beyonce doesn’t songwrite, for about a good twenty minutes theskorpionshow tells the truth about trent. And I agree with every word they said!

    • kelvin

Beyonce gave reference to Ne-yo for irreplaceable on the BET B’day special DVD waaaayyy before the controversy about the song came along

    • sPARKd

kelvin – Didn’t she do that AFTER SHE TOLD A PACKED AUDIENCE IN SPAIN that she wrote it, and then he later confirmed he wrote it.

It’s all damage control to me.

    • HER.

I find it hilarious that instead of BeyHive saying ‘yeah, Bey really shouldn’t be taking credit for songs she didn’t write’ they decide to bring Mariah and Rihanna into it. Mariah writes her own songs and Rihanna has NEVER taken credit for a song she didn’t write so why are they being brought into it? Stick to discussing the issue the article raises which is the fact Beyonce takes credit for songs she didn’t write. It’s not the fact she doesn’t song write, many artists today don’t, it’s the fact she’s trying to present herself as something she’s not.

    • HER.

      *Mariah writes/co-writes her own songs

    • Bri

It ain’t right for Beyonce to take credit, but Ne-yo ain’t stressin bout it so y should we. He ain’t 2mad bout it he still continues to write songz for her so aye. I’m kool. Erybody gttn 2mad. Lol

    • what?

ne-you needs to take some seat. he’s so shady and mess.
Beyonce change the key of the song, change the drum patterns, and did change the lyrics(since it was male song) and she add “to the left” part in the middle. whichi is famous part of irrepleable. she did vocal arrange and vocal producing of the song. (nobody in pop music industry can do this. onyl beyonce can seriously.)

    • Please

DOOM @ “the fact that Beyonce often takes credit for writing the song”. She’s only ever referred to herself as a writer of the song ONCE, and that was during a random concert in Tokyo. All other evidence is, quite frankly, non-existent.

Furthermore, she SOUNDLY stated, before B’Day was even out, that Ne-Yo wrote Irreplaceable (on the BET Presents Beyoncé DVD AND when she was on HOT 97 with Angie Martinez).

Lastly, Stargate (whom Ne-Yo inexplicably never mentions) have stated that Beyoncé changed the key of the song, had the drum patterns changed, and worked on some of the arrangements. ALL of which you can clearly hear when you compare the DEMO (the REAL demo, and not the one with Ne-Yo singing over the final track) and the FINAL version. Do your research people.
