Balance was restored to the Billboard 200 this week as the good music of Adele’s ’21′ could no longer keep the album in the top 10 of the chart and a dark force of unparalleled garbage has topped the lineup. Yes folks, last week’s sales predictions were correct and Trey Songz’s ‘Chapter V’ has hit #1 on the Billboard 200.
‘Chapter V’ entered the Billboard 200 at #1 with sales exceeding 135K copies. The record has become Songz’s first chart-topping set, despite selling considerably less than the 240K copies moved by its predecessor, ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’.
Songz’s debut album, ‘I Gotta Make It’, peaked at #20 on the Billboard 200 whereas his other releases, ‘Trey Day’ and ‘Ready’, climbed to #11 and #3, respectively. In case you were wondering, ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’ capped off at #2 on the lineup.
However, as one new era begins, another has come to an end. For the first time since debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 during the week of March 12th 2011, Adele’s ’21′ has slipped out of the top 10 of the ranking. To date, the album has sold 9.74 million copies in the US and is currently ranked as the 22nd best-selling LP of the SoundScan era (1991-present).
Adele has no reason to fret, though, because the ’21′ notched an astounding 78 weeks in the top 10, thus matching the streaks of Def Leppard’s ‘Hysteria’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ for the third-longest run in that region of the chart since 1963. Notably, Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ remained in the top 10 for 84 weeks and ‘The Sound of Music’ soundtrack scored the longest stay with 109 weeks (read more about that feat by clicking here).
