Earlier today, the first images from the 2012 BMI Urban Music Awards honoring the work of legendary singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. Now, video footage from the show has been shared and it features acts such as Fantasia and Joe performing Carey’s memorable classics.
A barefooted Fantasia took to the stage to sing the global anthem ‘Hero’ and was so moving that Carey leapt from her seat to embrace the gritty songstress. Joe, on the other hand, grooved to a rearranged version of the Billboard Hot 100 Song of the Decade (2000-2009), ‘We Belong Together’.
Also on the bill were Karen Clark Sheard, who sang Carey’s ‘Anytime You Need A Friend’, and Eric Benet with ‘One Sweet Day’. Carey worked with the latter in her not so popular film ‘Glitter’ in 2001. Sadly, footage of his and Sheard’s performances have yet to surface.
Watch Fantasia and Joe sing Carey’s praises as well as her acceptance speech at the 2012 BMI Urban Music Awards below:
