Did you know that Lauryn Hill was the first female Hip-Hop artist to top the Billboard both as a solo act and as a member of a group?
As a member of the Fugees, Hill reach the summit of the Billboard 200 with the group’s second album, ‘The Score’, in May 1996. The icon then returned to the #1 slot of the lineup in September of 1998 with her solo debut set, ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’.
Hill was only the second Hip-Hop artist to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 as a solo performer and as part of a collective, following Nas. Foxy Brown and Eve are the only other women to achieve that feat. Watch the video for Hill’s ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’ below:
