Alicia Keys’ new song, ‘Girl on Fire’, is expected to hit the airwaves tomorrow (September 4th) but one of the various versions of the song have already surfaced online. That’s right, the highly anticipated Inferno edition of the tune, which features Nicki Minaj, is now available for your streaming pleasure.
Tomorrow, the original and Blue Light versions of ‘Girl on Fire’ will officially be released. Keys will then perform one of those mixes of song at the 2012 MTV VMA on September 6th. Listen to the Inferno mix of ‘Girl on Fire’ below:
Basically, Keys took the major drum elements of her own ‘Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart’, added a less than impressive pair of verses from Minaj and yelled sang ‘Girl on Fire’ in full voice. Those are the only major differences between this song and the material included on her last album, ‘The Element of Freedom’, so where is the new sound that she promised?
Still, ‘Girl on Fire’ could still enjoy airplay across both Rhythmic and Urban radio. It is a shame, however, that Keys didn’t keep ‘New Day’ as her own single instead of letting 50 Cent use it for his project because it is far stronger than this track. Yes, ‘New Day’ was originally recorded for 50 Cent it was a bit silly to let that banger get away.
