Remember when Ciara visited Centric’s ‘The Hot 10′ and declared that her upcoming ‘One Woman Army’ album would represent a new direction for her? Well, this new song by the singer, entitled ‘Sophomore’, makes it very difficult to determine if she was indeed serious with her statements.
Produced by Soundz for his own mixtape, ‘Sophomore’ is a bass-heavy, club record that follows the lead of the ill-fated ‘Sweat (Ft. 2 Chainz)’. How Ciara plans to represent all women – other than those is in the strip club – with this track is beyond me but maybe you can hear the inspiration when you listen to the song below:
So, how have any of the songs from ‘One Woman Army’ that we’ve heard this far – ‘Sweat’, ‘Overdose’ and ‘Sophomore’ – represented the “vulnerable” side of Ciara? Maybe I missed the memo but hasn’t she released several records like these before? Artists really need to stop making grand statements about their albums and just release the music. That way, we will avoid the disappoint caused by high hopes and less than amazing material.
Hey, I still like the beats of Ciara’s new songs. Hence, I won’t boo her off the stage. Rather, I will look on pleasantly as I keep my money safely tucked into my wallet and away from her purchases on iTunes.
