Rihanna Performs ‘Umbrella’ During Coldplay ‘Mylo Xyloto Tour’

Rihanna performs during Colplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto Tour’.

Usually when Rihanna sings ‘Umbrella’ we really have to fetch one because her vocals cause several forms of natural disasters. However, during her latest showing on Coldplay’s ‘Mylo Xyloto Tour’ at the Stade de France in Paris, the Pop star was far more tolerable.

Now, let’s not get carried away. Rihanna didn’t sound as good as Whitney Houston before, during or after her prime. Rather, she just hit a few good notes without yelling or going dramatically off-key. Watch her performance below and see what I mean while keeping in mind that she used to be much worse:

    Thoughts?

      :D

why would Rihanna sound like Whitney Houston? That’s a weird comparison just to throw shade. Mariah didn’t sound as good as Whitney at any part of her life either. Who cares? This was a good rendition of the song.

    • Jeejees

I think she did really well. What saves Rihanna is her unique tone. If she takes the time to develop her voice more she’ll be the real deal.

    • Liberiangirl

I can honestly say she didn’t sound bad at all. Good job RiRi

    • Benron (King Of The Navy)

This is so disapointing, Rihanna didn’t sound like Whitney houston. You’re the one who said her voice causes natural disasters, why should her not sounding like one of the best singers of our time bother me…

You don’t always have to throw shade ya know. For example now it just sounds tired, bitter, and forced. Like you had to say something negative no matter what. Lighten up, just because she will steal your faves single crown does not mean you have to hate her…

    • Adam

Rihanna! Girl…… where did that voice come from?
She sounded good. She actually sounded good!

    • babe

Whatever she is smoking….smoke more of it gyal because this is the best I’ve heard her sound throughout her entire years in the music industry. Go ‘head girl…*lights spliff and passes it to Robyn*

    • kevin

I dont really care about Rihanna. I bump We Found Love in my car and will Spotify throwback Break it Off every once in a while.

But, no shade, is this supposed to be a great vocal by one of the world’s biggest pop stars? I know this sounds shady, but the people on American Idol top 5 sound WAY better than her.

    • Tay

No shade but shade Trent you always dissing people when its not needed. Clearly its not needed here smh

    • truth

      its good for rihanna standards.
if any of my faves sang like this i wouldnt be impressed.

    • Um.

Trent how are you going to shade her and then say “she used to be much worse”… okay.. we all know that.. why can’t you congratulate her at least once? she sounded decent.. This is why I don’t bother with you anymore.

    • olly_tei

She sounded great, thats where the critique ends.

Chris rendition of that song made it bearable after all these years. She better be inspired and start thinking how she can make her live performances both more musically and emotionally engaging.

    • Plain & Simple

The first song Rihanna did with Coldplay was just a hot mess. Umbrella was ok. You can see here that she need vocal training.

    • honeyBee

YASS! girlfriend left that billy goat at home and turned out! you better reach up them octaves Rihanna! Impressed.

    • MsAfroCAN

So long as she isn’t being nasal, I can tolerate her. I don’t think there’s any point to talking about her vocals since her success has little to do with that.

    • Debbie

Nobody buys a rihanna cd or goes to one of her concerts to hear great singing so I think its pointless to critique her vocals .. She’s a mediocre girl who was at the right place at the right time and that pretty much sums it up! Although the fact that were praising an “international star” for simply staying on key makes my stomache turn a little LOL

    • China

Madonna can’t sing or dance and she is still praised. So just let Rihanna be, because she will probably always have a limited voice. Until Rihanna spends time with her vocal coach and puts enough thought into improving, everyone can just hush. Trent you are just so lame at times. That shade was weak and uncalled for. I love Mariah, but no matter how big her range is, she never was and never will see
Whitney “The Voice” Houston in her PRIME!
