Monica’s ‘New Life’ album was stillborn so she has quickly abandoned the project and moved on to another record. In fact, the former top-selling artist has already started recording songs for her new LP and shared the list of producers who will help her rise from the bottom of the K-Mart bargain bin.
In addiion to sharing an image of herself alongside RCA CEO Peter Edge, Monica revealed that her seventh studio album will entail a “fresh” new sound. Among the producers and writers onboard for the project include Rico Love, Jim Jonson, Stargate, Mike Will, RedStyles, Polow da Don and Missy Elliott.
Since being released on April 10th, Monica’s ‘New Life’ has sold less than 130K copies in the US. None of the album’s singles managed to crack the Billboard Hot 100 and that includes her duet with Brandy, ‘It All Belongs To Me’. Plans for a summer tour to support the LP were scrapped.

If Monica wants to sell more than 35 copies of her new album then she will really need to develop a new sound. Instead of singing the same 7 notes throughout the record, she should experiment with her range and look at the work being done by some of her peers, such as Miguel and Keyshia Cole, who have expanded their audiences by dabbling in new writing and production styles.
The last thing anybody wants to hear another preachy album intro by Mary J. Blige and a string of cliche breakup songs. Monica has made better in the music in the past so she needs to refocus and get in touch with the driven artist who was determined to make a mark on the music scene.
