Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!…I Did It Again’ album cover

Did you know that Britney Spears’ ‘Oops!…I Did It Again’ holds the record for the biggest first week sales by an album by a female artist?

‘Oops!’ sold 1.319 when it entered the Billboard 200 at #1 in May 2000 and nabbed the title of having the highest opening sales of an album by a solo act at that time. However, her record was soon broken by Eminem’s ‘The Marshall Mathers LP’, which sold 1.76 million copies when it debuted in June 2000.

Now ranked as the album as the album with the third largest first week sales – Eminem’s ‘The Eminem Show’ started with 1.322 million in 2002 – ‘Oops!’ is certified diamond in the US with sales exceeding 9.20 million copies. Watch the video for the title track below:

    • Unbothered

People want to shade Britney and her mental state, but you can’t deny her success. She accomplished with her first 2 albums what your fave has been attempting their entire career.

i agree with the person above. it’s sad that people look at her now and forget how successful she was and still is. she’s broken many records and has contributed to the evolution of pop music in the early 2000s. she deserves some credit, even if she isn’t the best singer and doesn’t put on a show like she use to.

not to bring adele into this, but I could see her selling this her first week when she puts out her new album just because everyone knows and loves her now.
But britney used to slay!! I hate she cant perform anymore because I LOVED her dancing and I still know the steps to overprotected.lol

    • HunnyBunz

      Amazing! Pop Royalty!

    • JohnVidal(RIP Whitney-truegreat)

Britney did big numbers with her first two albums. Huge numbers. But she is still pretty untalented. So it´s like it doesn´t count. It´s not like she´s the biggest thing ever in sales either. Awesome that record of first week numbers but it stops there. Kind of what Taylor Swift is doing now. All the parents in the USA buying it cos the girl seems nice, but who tekes their music seriously? Nobody. They will be nobodies to music in the future

      • ML

So many things wrong with that statement. But I expect nothing less from this site though.

    • Girl, bye

Please, all Britney is is numbers. She’s a huge pop product and her dancing was always stiff!

    • RichiAngelo

Don’t hate! Britney is still a queen, and while not being a talented singer, she slayed the game with exceptional music videos, legendary performances, and catchy pop songs. Britney may dance like a cheerleader, but her old self still sh*ts on most of the performers out today.
