Christina Aguilera refused to effectively promote her new album, ‘Lotus’, effectively and she will pay dearly for her mistake. As sales predictions indicate, the record will earn her the lowest first week sales of career and be outsold by The Weeknd’s ‘Trilogy’.
With only 75K-80K in sales, ‘Lotus’ will clock even lower sales than Aguilera’s previous commercial disaster, ‘Bionic’. The latter entered the Billboard 200 at #3 in 2010 with over 110K copies sold. That’s right, ‘Lotus’ will replace its predecessor as the slowest-selling English studio album of Aguilera’s career to date.
However, this situation comes as no surprise because Aguilera performed material from ‘Lotus’ at only two televised events – ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ and ‘The Voice’. Additionally, the lead single from the set, ‘Your Body’, peaked at #34 on the Billboard Hot 100 before tumbling down the chart.
Shockingly, however, The Weeknd’s ‘Trilogy’ is on track to outsell ‘Lotus’. The first major release by the underground artist, which is just a compilation of songs from his trio of mixtapes - ‘Thursday’ and ‘Echoes of Silence’ - will move 95K-105K copies in its first week.
