Did you know that Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and several other superstars once performed background vocals for Donna Summer?
Jackson and Wonder joined James Ingram, Kenny Loggins, Lionel Richie and Dionne Warwick as part of an all-star choir that sang background on Summer’s 1982 ‘State of Independence’. The song, which peaked at #14 on the Official UK Singles Chart, was actually a cover of a Jon & Vangelis’ Calypso/Dance fusion hit released in 1981.
Ironically, all of the singers featured in Summer’s ‘State of Independence’ choir appeared on Jackson’s ‘We are the World’ anthem in 1985 but she did not. Watch the video for ‘State of Independence’ and behind the scenes footage of the song’s recording below:
