The Billboard Music Awards have been known to honor artists with allegedly sponsored titles as a form of timely propaganda. However, this year the show will celebrate the accomplishments of a living legend who deserves every form of praise available and his name is Prince.

Prince will receive the Icon Award at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards on May 19th. The show will air live from MGM Grand Garden Arena via ABC but don’t expect just any random artists to sing songs in her honor. Rather, the Purple one will perform as part of his own tribute like a true diva.

The competitive trophies for the Billboard awards will be decided based on the most successful songs, albums and acts during the period of February 27th 2012 to February 24th 2013. Now, get lost in the magic of Prince’s “Purple Rain”:
