Following Beyonce’s performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” at the inauguration parade, I humbly suggested that she was probably lip-syncing and asked you, beloved readers of The Lava Lizard, to share your opinions. Well, guess what? The Times has confirmed that she did mime the US national anthem!
Standing less than three feet away from the newly reelected President Barack Obama, Beyonce pretended to be singing live as she shamelessly basked in the glory of her crazed fans who praised her for her so called “flawless” vocals. Meanwhile, Obama’s mother-in-law looked visibly upset, probably because she isn’t a fan of silent comedy.
Beyonce reportedly decided to use the backtrack that she recorded prior to the event because she didn’t want to risk any problems at the widely televised event. On the other hand, all the other entertainers, such as Kelly Clarkson, who brilliantly sang “My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”, refused to rely on such trickery.
Of course, several divas choose to lip-sync “The Star Spangled Banner” at major events – Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey both chose that option at their respective Super Bowl shows – but it is quite odd that Beyonce mimed while the rest of the inauguration parade cast sang live. Doesn’t this make you wonder how about many other occasions relied on such smoke and mirrors during her concerts?
By the way, to the angry fans who claimed that Beyonce sang live at the inauguration parade “because she removed her ear piece, thus making it impossible for her to lip-sync…”
