Emeli Sande’s Our Version of Events debut album sold so poorly in the US that when her promotional campaign ceased, many of us assumed that she fled from the embarrassment. However, in a shocking turn of events (see what I did there?), the songbird resurfaced across the pond to perform on The Today Show.
Shrugging off the less than stellar sales of Our Version of Events stateside (barely 40K copies have been sold to date), Sande humbly chatted about developing a fanbase in the US with Today Show host Matt Lauer. She then showed the morning audience exactly what they have been missing by belting renditions of “Next to Me” and the emotional “My Kind of Love”.
Don’t assume that Sande is completely reliant on the US performance of Our Version of Events, though, because the album was the top-selling disc in the UK last year. In fact, it sold north of one million copies and even bested Adele’s monster 21 set.
