Mariah Carey is one of the most successful songwriters of all time so it is now surprise that she has a way with words. In fact, she rarely has to say much to put her peers to shame and during her interview on Nightline last evening, she proved that while discussing Nicki Minaj.
When asked by Barbara Walters to discuss how she felt about Minaj’s recent digs at her on the song “Hell Yeah”, Carey made quick work of rebuffing her nemesis. In the tune, Minaj “sang” the line, “why these bums so mad that the queen on [American Idol]?”
How did Carey respond? “I didn’t know she sang. I thought she rapped or whatever.” No wonder Carey referred to Minaj as inadequate during their notorious showdown on the American Idol set. Thankfully, however, the interview’s entire focus wasn’t centred on drama.
Carey also shared footage of herself recording a new piano-driven song for her upcoming album, due in the spring. She also chatted about her role as a mother and her marriage to husband Nick Cannon. Watch the full Nightline segment below:
