While Nicki Minaj was rampaging across social media networks and other forms of media in a failed bid to tarnish Mariah Carey’s reputation, the latter chose to remain silent regarding their American Idol feud. However, during an interview on Nightline, the megastar finally addressed her spat with her “inadequate” counterpart.
Barbara Walters visited Good Morning America earlier today to share a preview of her chat with Carey, who was quite candid while discussing her life as mother, singer and judge on American Idol. Of course, the highlight of their interview was the topic of Carey’s clash with Minaj.
In October 2012, footage of Minaj’s verbal assault on the set of American Idol surfaced and news soon broke that she allegedly proclaimed, “If I had a gun, I would shoot that bitch.” Naturally, a diva of Carey’s status wasted no time by hiring a larger security team and Walters reported on The View that Carey was “emotionally uncomfortable” following the situation.
“It felt like an unsafe work environment,” Carey stated on Nightline. “Anytime anybody’s reeling threats at somebody, you know, it’s not appropriate. I’m a professional. I’m not used to that type of environment. I just felt [hiring more security] was the appropriate thing to do. Sitting there on the road with two babies, I’m not going to take any chances.”
Walters has since contacted Minaj’s team for a comment but for the first time in months, the colourful rapper chose not to comment. In fact, Minaj’s representative said, “she’s said what she’s saying on this topic,” despite her talking to every other available media outlet from Fuse to The Breakfast Club about the incident.
Carey’s full segment on Nightline will air this evening 11:35pm-12:00am ET/PT on ABC. Watch an extended preview of the special below:
