Did you know that Liberace’s death was caused by complications with AIDS?

At the age of 67 years, Liberace passed away on February 4th 1987 after a reported two-year battle with HIV/AIDS-related symptoms. Although there were many efforts made to hide the true cause of his death because of the stigma associated with AIDS in the 1980s, it was confirmed in the months following his demise.

Liberace was one of the most famous entertainers of the 20th century and his flamboyant shows influenced the careers of Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Elton John and Michael Jackson (remember the sparkling glove?). Watch Liberace perform with Sammy Davis Jr. below:
