Keyshia Cole’s has trouble detecting when she’s straying drastically off-key but at least she knows a bad song when she hears one. While several producers and artists eager to work with Beyonce showered her new song, “Bow Down/I Been On”, with false praise, Cole has publicly lashed out against the tracks message.
Rightfully noting the contradictions between Beyonce’s usual female empowerment schtick and condescending theme of “Bow Down”, Cole labelled the Pepsi lady as conveniently self-reighteous. Yet, was Cole’s outburst the smartest move? Read her comments and my thoughts below:
Can’t stand when people all self righteous when it’s convenient it makes them look good. Lmao! But can still talk shit when convenient 2 FOH
I done kept it real from the start!
#RespectTHAT“First ‘Women need to Stick together’ now bitches better Bow. Smh,” she said. “But it’s all G! Chicks stay shooting the shit. But when I speak my mind its a prob. #Well #StayMad.”
Although Cole’s statements are accurate, it certainly wasn’t the best decision for her to share her views publicly. She isn’t a member of the media or a casual music fan; she is a singer who works in the same industry as Beyonce and her notoriously vindictive husband, Jay-Z.
So, Cole has effectively made herself a target for serious backlash. Also, even if Beyonce’s team ignores Cole’s comments, the extensive list of producers desperate to fit in with the cool kids will probably distance themselves from her outspoken rivals. Simply, this won’t end well.
