Did you know that this week marks the 15th anniversary of Madonna’s classic Ray of Light album?
Ray of Light was released on March 3rd 1998 and jumpstarted Madonna’s then struggling career, which had cooled compared to her 1980s peak. The record was certified 4x platinum in the US and sold a reported 20 million copies around the globe, thanks largely to the success of the title track, “Frozen” and “The Power of Good-Bye”.
Critics gave Ray of Light generally positive reviews, particularly because of the lyric-driven content and Madonna’s improvement as a singer. At the 1999 Grammy Awards ceremony, Madonna earned 5 nominations for the set, including Album of the Year. However, she only won Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Dance Recording (“Ray of Light”) and Best Short Form Music Video (“Ray of Light”).
