Yesterday, Rihanna released rehearsal footage for her Diamonds World Tour and I overlooked the two minutes of stiff two-stepping as just a regular showing by the world’s most famous Bajan. However, when the headlines across the blogosphere praised Rihanna for her little wine, it was clear that perspective was needed.
You all know that I’m Trinidadian – hence the name Trini Trent – the arts of wining and limbo are among the most popular dance forms in my country. So, imagine the disgust that welled in my throat when ignorant writers across the web claimed that Rihanna was “wining up a storm” when all she did was a basic swivel of her hips.
