Christina Aguilera’s popularity has drastically declined in the US but she has found a way to remain relevant – piggybacking on other artists’ success. Unable to score a hit single on her own, the singer has ridden on Pitbull’s coattails and returned to the upper regions of the charts yet again.
Pitbull’s “Feel this Moment” has pierced the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and landed at #8. The song has been logged at Aguilera’s 10th visit to that sector of the lineup, following her spot on Maroon 5′s “Moves like Jagger” in 2011. When was her last visit to the top 10 as a lead act? That was in 2008 with “Keeps Gettin’ Better”, which peaked at #7. In fact, that was also her last top 20 hit of her own, preceded by “Hurt” in 2006 (it reached #19).
Interestingly, Aguilera’s “Lady Marmalade” counterpart and longtime rival Pink is still scoring major success on the charts. Her latest single, “Just Give Me a Reason (Ft. Nate Ruess)” jumped to #6 on the Hot 100 this week while her The Truth About Love returned to #5 on the Billboard 200 by selling an additional 36K copies for a new total of 1.26 million in the US. Who guessed that Pink would outlast Aguilera and prove to be a more successful artist?
