If you ever wondered how Mariah Carey would sound while singing a Whitney Houston song then you’re about to get a glimpse. Shortly after she was introduced to The Lava Lizard via Burning Up, Ariana Grande performed a cover of Houston’s “I Believe in You & Me” but still sounded similar to a teenaged version of Carey.
Grande performed the Houston tribute live in her studio but instead of channeling the rich, powerful voice of the late diva, her breathy riffs and fluid transitions between the registers of her range were clear throwbacks to Carey’s sound. Even Grande’s flowing hair was reminiscent to Carey’s Music Box era of 1993.
Still, we can’t deny that Grande sounded great while paying homage to Houston. At least the very least, she can sing and respects great artists. Watch her “I Believe in You & Me” performance below:
