Kelly Rowland isn’t resting on her laurels as the mother of Dance, Pop and Disco. Rather, the global icon and future legend of our generation is ready to take over the field of R&B with her Talk a Good Game album, and she has enlisted Beyonce and Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child to aid her with her quest.
While chatting with Billboard, Rowland revealed that she will reunite with both Beyonce and Williams on a new soulful song. However, don’t expect it to be another Beyonce Destiny’s Child track that merely features her and Williams on a verse and bridge, respectively. Rather, Rowland is determined to remain in the spotlight.
“It’s not a Destiny’s Child track,” Rowland made clear. “It’s me featuring Beyonce and Michelle.” Somewhere in an office lined with Grammy Awards, empty Pepsi cans, pictures of Tina Turner and jars filled with souls, Beyonce just scoffed and cackled at former bandmate’s pride. Rowland shall pay dearly for her insolence.
Talk a Good Game will comprise production credits by Mike WILL Made It, Boy Wonder, T-Minus, The-Dream, Pharrell, and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The record is heavily influenced by the sounds of New Edition, Pebbles, Babyface, Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder.
“Feels like everything I wanted to make as far as music and R&B,” Rowland boasted. “I wanted to make sure my roots were really pronounced on this album. I remember having my first conversations with Boy Wonder and T-Minus. They can give you the shirt-off-their-back story. They love R&B the way I do. It was so wonderful to be in the same creative space.”
Destiny’s Child reunited earlier this year for a new song called “Nuclear”, which appeared on their poor-selling Love Songs compilation. They also performed at the 2013 Super Bowl Halftime Show as part of Beyonce’s set. Watch the footage below:
