Poor Jason Derulo. He’s a great dancer, good enough singer for the current era of Pop music and he has a marketable look yet he’s always one step behind the competition. For example, the singer released his new song, “The Other Side”, and it places him on the tail end of a dying trend.
As Chris Brown, Usher and several other acts gradually move away from generic Pop radio fodder, Derulo charges head first into the EDM movement with “The Other Side”. The song is features cliche production fit for an episode of Jersey Shore, which was cancelled by MTV since 2012. However, that’s not the end of Derulo’s problems.
Instead of taking a hint from his peers who now place more emphasis on actual singing, Derulo relies on auto-tune to give his voice that overused robotic tone. Perhaps if he was less focused on convincing the world that he and Jordin Sparks are really in love, he would have heard the news that auto-tune is dead. Just ask Ke$ha.
