When the news first broke that Andre 3000 and Beyonce were planning to cover Amy Winehouse’s music for the upcoming The Great Gatsby film, the views across the blogosphere were immediately split. However, as this first preview of their rendition of “Back to Black” proves, it may not be a bad idea.

Substituting the bluesy brass of Amy Winehouse’s original, Beyonce and Andre 3000 give “Back to Black” the contemporary Hip-Hop treatment. Still, although the preview of their version isn’t long enough to judge Beyonce’s vocal performance, it’s clear that the Pop singer has given the song a different meaning with a more sultry approach.
