People often refer to Rihanna as just a singles artists but as her consistent album sales prove, she is actually relatively successful across the board. For example, the Bajan’s latest studio offering, Unapologetic, has become her sixth consecutive album to be certified platinum in the US.
Unapologetic has shipped over 1 million units in the US, thus earning yet another platinum certification for Rihanna’s collection of hits. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the record has sold north of 943K copies in that territory since being released in November 2012 with 16K moved at retail outlets during the last week alone.
The lead Unapologetic single, “Diamonds”, peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has thus far been certified platinum. Its followups, “Stay (Ft. Mikky Ekko)” and “Pour it Up”, have climbed to #3 and #19 on the chart respectively. Notably, the latter of those tunes achieved that feat without any promotion or even an accompanying video. Additionally, “Stay” has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
