When Christina Aguilera first announced that she was temporarily leaving The Voice to kickoff a world tour that never happened, it was made clear that the move was temporary. However, now that the songbird with the mangled vocal cords is preparing to return to the show, there is a minor speed bump in her comeback plans.
Shakira replaced Aguilera during the fourth season of The Voice and despite favourable reviews, the industrywide dip in talent show ratings has been unavoidable. So, now that Aguilera is ready to resume her role on the show as a coach, reports indicate that she may not see the sizeable increase in her pay cheque that she desires.
Aguilera was supposedly paid $10 million for the third season of The Voice. For the fifth season of the show, on the other hand, she is seeking a $17 million payout, which will rank her behind Mariah Carey as the second highes-paid judge in reality television history. Carey was paid north of $18 million for her services on American Idol’s latest season.
Unfortunately, rather than a $7 million pay spike, Aguilera will only receive $12 million from NBC to return to The Voice. Either way, she will resume her role as a coach on the series with Cee-Lo Green as Shakira and Usher make their exit. We all know that she isn’t making that much money from her music these days so a cheque is a cheque.
