She is loud, overbearing and has a terrible ear for music but her bold personality is perfect for television. Yes folks, the producers of American Idol are desperate to boost the show’s plummeting ratings to they’ve once again set credentials aside and hired Jennifer Hudson as a new judge.
According to E! News, all four of the current American Idol judges – diva Mariah Carey, industry veteran Randy Jackson, some girl named Nicki Minaj and Country singer Keith Urban – will not return for the 13th season of the show. After scoring the lowest ratings for a finale in the history of series, the American Idol producers have decided to return to the 3-judge format but this time, all members of the panel will be past contestants.
Other prospective judges include Kelly Clarkson, who is probably the most talented vocalist to emerge from the US talent show circuit during the last decade, Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken. Final deliberations are still in progress and the new cast is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
Ironically, Hudson didn’t make it to the top 3 of her season of American Idol, which was won by Fantasia. In fact, she was axed quite early but eventually launched a successful acting career and even won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dreamgirls.
Of course, this is a singing competition and despite having a massive voice, Hudson isn’t the best of her class. Watch her get outdone by the the latest American Idol winner, Candice Glover, below:
