Who knew that Kelly Rowland was such a big Rihanna fan? While performing a set of her hits at the Riverfest Amphitheater in Little Rock, Arkansas this weekend, singer treated her few fans to a new song called “Street Life” from her upcoming Talk a Good Game album and it sounded strangely similar to Rihanna’s material.
From the vocal arrangement to the chanting and the beat, “Street Life” could have easily appeared on Rihanna’s Loud album as a followup track to “What’s My Name? (Ft. Drake)”. Did producer Pharrell Williams craft the record for the Bajan superstar but chose to give it to Rowland instead? Did Rowland make an effort to copy Rihanna’s style? She is listed as a writer on the song, after all. Yet, that term is used loosely by members of Destiny’s Child.
“Street Life” will be available on Rowland’s Talk a Good Game album on June 18th. Until that time, watch her perform the song at Riverfest below:
