It has been almost a year since Nicki Minaj’s infamous temper tantrum against Hot 97 that lead to her pulling out of the station’s annual Summer Jam show. Yesterday, however, with his tail between his legs and integrity in the toilet, the man who caused the fiasco, Peter Rosenberg, lured the rapper to his studio by kissing her backside.
Minaj was scheduled to perform at the Hot 97 Summer Jam show in 2012 but she cancelled her appearance just moments before she was set to hit stage because Rosenberg proclaimed to the audience that her hit song “Starships” was not real Hip-Hop. What resulted was a backlash against Hot 97 by Minaj’s fans and other members of Young Money.
Flash forward a year and Minaj’s career has taken a major downturn with her album sales lower than ever and her singles struggling to climb the charts. So, she needs all the help she can get to return to her former prominence but you would never make that assumption based on her Hot 97 interview.
For almost 45 minutes, Rosenberg took full responsibility for the Summer Jam debacle and praised Minaj’s imaginary “iconic” status, although she repeatedly took jabs at his credibility. In fact, Minaj questioned the radio personality’s resume and his ability to judge the quality of her music. You know, because people needs at least 20 years of DJ experience before they can determine if a song like “Starships” is utter garbage.
Rosenberg was so eager to get Hot 97 back into the good graces of Young Money that he claimed that Minaj has surpassed Lauryn Hill’s impact in the industry. Now, you’ve read my breakdown of Hill’s contributions to popular culture. Do you agree that Minaj has topped the former Fugee?
