While several artists, such as Rihanna, have veered away from catchy EDM-driven Pop songs in a bid to score a club hits, Jennifer Lopez is determined to milk the trend until it has nothing left to offer. In fact, the late to the party diva dives butt first into the dying genre with her new song, “Live it Up”.
Featuring Pitbull, “Live it Up” is the lead single from Lopez’s new album, due for release later this year. Unfortunately for her, the song is far from as interesting as her previous Pitbull collaborations, “On the Floor” and “Dance Again”. Listen to “Live it Up” below:
No wonder Lopez was reportedly in talks to rejoin the American Idol judging panel; with terrible songs like “Live it Up”, the show will be her only wait to get on TV. Well, with the exception of the occasional Fiat, hair colour or shampoo commercial.
What exactly was going through Lopez’s mind when she recorded “Live it Up”? Did she honestly think that this is the ideal track to put forward at this stage in her career? Yes, “Live it Up” has the potential to be a last minute hit before the end of the EDM era but it is shows absolutely no artistic growth with its predictable lyrics, cliche production and predictable progressions (I use this word loosely).
Regarding the supposed battle of the divas, Mariah Carey has won this round with a clear knockout. “#Beautiful” is exactly what a artist of her calibre should be singing whereas Lopez is busy recreating the elements of Nicki Minaj’s “Starships” in a desperate bid to remain relevant.
