When it first announced that Nicki Minaj would appear on Mario’s new song, “Somebody Else”, fans of the crooner groaned and complained. However, the Polow Da Don-produced track has hit the airwaves and guess what? It’s actually relatively impressive!
“Somebody Else” is the lead single from Mario’s upcoming fifth studio album, which he promises will be a revival for the struggling R&b genre. So, has he accomplished his goal? Listen to the radio rip of “Somebody Else” below and prepare your verdict:
Polow Da Don was obviously inspired by Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys’ recent works when he crafted this mix of crashing drums. In fact, that beat is the backbone of the song and should help it to gain momentum quickly on Urban radio. Additionally, Minaj’s verse is far from the Pop fodder than she dropped during the last year and a return to form. All in all, “Somebody Else” could be a hit with the right backing and I’m eager to see how Mario promotes it.
