As usual, Mariah Carey leads and Nicki Minaj follows. Mere moments after Carey announced her departure from American Idol via her PR firm, the latter took to Twitter to confirm reports that also won’t return for the show’s 13th season later this year.
“Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience!” Minaj stated on Twitter as millions of the show’s remaining viewers dutty wined in glee. “Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!” By music, Minaj is referring to her new album, which is currently in its early stages of development.
“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season,” Fox and American Idol producers, FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment, noted in a joint statement. “Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best.”
Us Weekly was the first to break the news about Minaj’s American Idol exit over two weeks ago. Now, the only judge to reveal his exit from the panel is Country superstar Keith Urban. Whether the door hit Minaj’s large backside on her wait out has yet to be confirmed.
