Will Beyonce ever sing a rendition “Love on Top” completely live? That’s the question that many people who aren’t blinded by the glitz and glamour of her shows ask themselves every time she “performs” the song. For example, when she headlined the 2013 BET Experience concert last evening, it appeared that the diva was up to her usual tricks.
Beyonce gave her Los Angeles fans a taste of The 4 Tour The Mrs. Carter Show World Tour when she brought her band, dancers and backtrack to the Staples Center for the BET Experience. Throughout the show, which boasted pyrotechnics, dramatic interludes and several costume changes between segments, Beyonce shimmied and wiggled her way through performances of her biggest hits.
However, when it was time to sing “Love on Top”, it seemed as though Beyonce was lip-syncing. While tossing her hair, banging her neck and flailing in the breeze generated by her wind machine, her singing remained perfectly unaffected and she sounded exactly as she did during previous performances of the tune at all of her previous shows.
On the bright side, Beyonce clearly sang most of the remaining BET Experience set live, so let’s just attribute her “Love on Top” antics to exhaustion. Running around in circles, shaking her rump and tossing her weave for over an hour isn’t as easy as it looks. Besides, Beyonce’s fans and the sponsored media outlets in attendance didn’t seem to care so why should those of us smart enough to watch the repetitive concert on YouTube for free?
