It’s June 24 and Michelle Williams has a new song on iTunes. “If We Had Your Eyes” was produced by Harmony Samuels as the lead single from the singer’s upcoming album but it isn’t the typical Gospel track. Instead, “If We Had Your Eyes” mixes R&B and Soul, and it represents a new direction for Williams.
However, as observed from the numerous previews of the song, the arrangement of “If We Had Your Eyes” is average at best with a drum pattern that simply doesn’t gel with melody of the song. Additionally, Michelle’s vocal performance is too far over the top and quite harsh on the ear, especially with her piercing tone. Yes, Williams is a very talented singer but “If We Had Your Eyes” goes to an unpleasant extreme.
On the other hand, Williams probably isn’t aiming for mainstream success with “If We Had Your Eyes”; she is targeting the fans of scream and repeat Gospel music. If that’s the case, she may have just found a hit. Listen to the song below:
