Thank you, Justin Timberlake. Robin Thicke’s career reached a new peak this week after his inescapable single, “Blurred Lines”, climbed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, thus beginning its reign at the summit of the US charts and breathing new life into the careers of T.I. and Pharrell.
Just last week, “Blurred Lines” became Thicke’s biggest hit when it ascended from #11 to #6 on the Hot 100. However, the song passed all expectations again this week by vaulting to #1 on the back of 315K downloads (up 38%), 73 million audience impressions (up 50%) and 3.5 million (up 66%). “Blurred Lines” isn’t just Thicke’s most successful tune on the Hot 100 but also his biggest-seller to date as his first to top the 1 million downloads mark, besting the 946K sold by “Lost Without You” in 2007.
Additionally, “Blurred Lines” ranks as T.I’s fourth #1 song on the Hot 100 and his first since “Live Your Life (Ft. Rihanna)” in 2008. Pharrell, on the other hand, has nabbed his third chart-topper and his first since Ludacris’ “Money Maker” in 2006. Isn’t it amazing how this series of events stemmed from Timberlake’s “Suit & Tie”, which made Thicke’s name a global trending topic across social media platforms because of the similarities between their voices?
