With highly anticipated new releases from Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Mariah Carey on the way, 2013 is shaping up to be the year of musical comebacks and it was only a matter of time before Britney Spears got in on the action. The “Criminal” singer has teased fans that her new album will ditch the sugary Pop sounds of yesterday and go for a more urban feel, a la Blackout 2.0.
Spears has enlisted top-notch producers such as William Orbit (Madonna, Ray of Light), Darkchild, Pharrell Williams and now, Naughty Boy. During his latest interview with Entertainment Wise the producer revealed that he wants to keep Britney in the Pop genre, but create still a fresh sound.
“I’m a big fan of Pop music and that culture, so I definitely want to keep that going but in my own kind of way and my own kind of style.”, Naughty Boy exclaimed. “I’m not trying to make any kind of record you would have heard before. As a producer you want to be able to do that, keep it original.”
Naughty Boy also nixed the idea of creating anything similar to her last album, Femme Fatale. “I wouldn’t do anything that dub-steppy [but] I wanted to keep it Pop. Thus far, I’m definitely getting an In the Zone feel for this new record, so I can only hope that the performance resemble this era as well.
