It’s time for a very special edition of our new artist segment, Burning Up! Do you remember the original incarnation of the UK-based group called the Sugababes? Well, the famous trio has reunited as Mutya Keisha Siobhan and just moments ago, they released their first official single, “Flatline”.
Mutya Keisha Siobhan will issue their first album has a collective reborn later this year. Among the producers and songwriters with whom the ladies have been working on their comeback are Sia, Dev Hynes, Shaznay Lewis, Cameron McVey, Naughty Boy, Richard X, William Orbit and MNEK.
Yet, many people wonder if Mutya Keisha Siobhan have what it takes to successfully relaunch their careers. Before I share my opinion, listen to “Flatline” below:
The production on “Flatline” is great and Mutya Keisha Siobhan’s harmonies are fantastic. However, whoever sang the second verse needs to be dragged by her weave into a vocal coach’s office and forced practice singing until she gets rid of that awful nasal quality of her voice.
Regardless, Mutya Keisha Siobhan are a fine addition to the “new” wave of girl groups invading the charts. They clearly have a somewhat darker appeal than Little Mix and their US counterparts in Fifth Harmony, and that will add some much needed variation to the music scene.
