Jill Scott was among the headlining acts at the 2013 Essence Music Festival this weekend she treated her fans to much more than just jaw-dropping vocal performances. While chatting backstage with the press, the diva revealed that she is preparing two new albums for release later this year!
The first album on Scott’s agenda is Lullaby, which is a project that differs from her previous releases. Is it spoken word poetry, Jazz, R&B or Soul? Well, the record will include elements of Scott’s vast musical repertoire but it is aimed at a very special target audience.
“The Lullaby album is for adults as well as infants, particularly those of you who have new babies and they are not sleeping. Turn the joker up, walk out the room and let them learn how to go to sleep.” Scott explained. “With these words and the lyrics that are meant to be encouraging as well as nourishing to the spirit, I believe that they will wake up healthy and rested.”
“[Lullaby] is meant to deprogram you.” Scott continued. “It [includes] many true from the heart lyrics, and I could not write them until I was pregnant and understood that new level of love. With God’s grace, that record will come out this year.”
Don’t worry, fans of Scott’s more grown and sexy music have not been forgotten, and she has prepared a second album just for them. “The next record is a lot different than the Lullaby album. I don’t want to tell you the name of it but I’m very proud of it so far. It will be different on your ears because I can’t stay in the same place or I will die. I can’t tell you the name or who’s on it but I love them and respect them immensely.”
Scott performed several of her hits at the Essence Festival, including the powerful “He Loves Me (Lyzel in E Flat)”. Watch her belt the magnificent tune below:
