Dawn Richard’s “Meteors” single cover

Dawn Richard is ready to kickoff the next stage of her career on her own terms. Without chasing commercial trends, the singer-songwriter has released a new song called “Meteors”, which is the lead single from her upcoming Blackheart album, due to arrive on October 7.

Already available on iTunes, “Meteors” was co-written by Richard and produced by Hakan Ozkan. As usual, Richard’s music is unpredictable and runs parallel to mainstream trends without ever converging. Indeed, with elements of Dance, the record is actually better geared toward European markets than US radio.

So, what does this mean for Richard’s Blackheart? Similar to its Goldenheart, it will likely be a slow seller but a still a winner with critics. Not bad for an independent project. Listen to “Meteors” below:
