Many people assumed that Robin Thicke would be one of the people championing the revival of R&B on the charts but his Blurred Lines album primarily entails EDM production. For instance, the crooner, who is now enjoying mainstream success, has released a new song called “Take it Easy on Me” and it targets the few remaining fans of Dance music.
Blurred Lines will hit stores in the US on July 30 (July 15 internationally) and in addition to the Funk-based title track, which currently rests atop the Billboard Hot 100, it will also feature “Give it 2 U (Ft. Kendrick Lamar)” and “Take it Easy on Me”. The last of those songs was produced by Timbaland, who crafted Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience. Ironically, that album was loosely based on Thicke’s R&B style as well as the work of Michael Jackson.
Did Thicke not foresee the downfall of EDM while recording Blurred Lines or was he simply more focused on targeting a global audience instead of just the US? He has yet to provide answers but one thing is clear: “Take it Easy on Me” is a great song.
