With Katy Perry’s “Roar” steadily gaining momentum at radio, digital retailers and online streams while perched atop the charts, the song surely does not need a video. Yet, to ensure that its reign at the Billboard Hot 100 summit is long-lasting, the singer has released a supporting visual, just in case Lady Gaga tries to make a surprise attempt on her throne.
Inspired by the story of Tarzan & Jane, Perry finds her true self among the beasts of the jungle and learns to roar as a Pop music feminist. Of course, she refused to go completely wild in the “Roar” video, and her hair, makeup and world class pushup bra remained perfectly in place even as she brush a crocodile’s teeth in the middle of a swamp. That’s what divas do: They stay camera-ready no matter the situation.
“Roar” climbed to the peak of the Hot 100 this week and toppled Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, which ruled the lineup up for 12 frames. Perry’s next single, “Dark Horse”, will arrive on September 17 and her Prism album will hit stores on October 22. Watch the “Roar” video below:
