US Charts: The Throne’s Rule Persists & Adele Reaches New Heights

The Throne have proven that the succes of their ‘Watch The Throne’ LP was definitely not a fluke as it has captured the top spot on the Billboard 200 for a second consecutive week. However, the album has long way to go before it matches the accomplishments of Adele’s ’21′, which has now sold over 3 million copies in the US.

‘Watch The Throne’ experienced an expected 59% sales dip this week by selling 177K. The record has sold over 613K copies since being released in on August 8th and was honored with a gold certification after only 2 weeks.

However, this accomplishment pales in comparison to to achievements of Adele’s ’21′, which sold over 80K units in the last 7 days (up 10%) for a new total of 3.06 million. The LP has been deemed as the fastest-selling album in over 6 years, reaching the 3 million mark quicker than any release since 2005.

Meanwhile, on the Billboard Hot 100, Katy Perry’s record-breaking ‘Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)’ has landed at #1 for a second week whereas Lil Wayne’s ‘She Will’ entered at #3, tying him with Mariah Carey for having the second most top 10 debuts with 5 singles.

Wow lil wayne’s newer singles are doing well on the charts. He should be able to snag the top spot on the album chart even with the leak.
