Lady GaGa To Open 2011 MTV Awards

Written by Trent | Filed under Award Shows,Lady GaGa

The planners of the 2011 MTV VMA may have just shot themselves in the feet by selecting Lady GaGa to kick off the annual event. The visual icon will open the show which airs live at 9pm ET on August 28th from  Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.

Why is this a problem for MTV? The lineup of performers is hardly exciting with very few interesting names, including Adele and Chris Brown, featured on the bill. Furthermore, GaGa is undoubtedly the most popular act who will appear on the show so after her set is complete there is little incentive for her legions of fans to continue watching.

It would be feasible for MTV to muster more exciting performers for the ceremony. Unless the planners intend to reveal some major names within the coming days for Britney Spears memorial tribute then we could expect this year’s show to be quite uneventful.

    Thoughts?

You don’t think Adele or Chris Brown won’t give great performances? I certainly do.

People like Jay Z, Kanye & Beyonce will probably perform. Lil Wayne is scheduled. There probably will be a Britney performance because of the dumpers tribute to her.

That’s basically all the popular artists in 2011. Of course Justin Bieber will be there. And so will Katy Perry who has the most nominations.
