Yesterday we asked you to vote for the new album that will dominate the fourth quarter of 2011. Well, that poll has proven to be quite timely as it has just been announced that Rihanna will be releasing her new album in November and on the same day as Mary J. Blige.
Rihanna will debut the record on November 21st. The project is preceded by the lead single ‘We Found Love (Ft. Calvin Harris)’, which will impact radio on October 11th. Blige is also scheduled to release her ‘My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act I)’ on November 21st and it will include the rising R&B hit, ’25/8′.
—————————————————-
This will be a very interesting chart matchup. Rihanna is known for having consistent sales and monster hit singles but she has yet to score a #1 album and her largest first week figures came from ‘Loud’ which debuted with 207K in the US.
Blige, on the other hand, has a reputation for accumulating high debut sales. In fact, even her lowest-selling LP, ‘Stronger with Each Tear’, managed to enter the Billboard 200 with 332K in its first week.
However, the key point of this news is that Rihanna and Blige are among the leading artists in their genres – Pop and R&B, respectively. Hence, we are finally going to see which field is truly dominant on the album charts!

lol with the garbage that Rihanna released today..its safe to say her new album wont hit #1.
She may sell more than Mary which kinda sucks…but then again Marys releasing My Life part 2!
We shall see.
Great article, great points!
Although Mary J. Blige will always be the QUEEN of R&B, when will she give it a rest? After hearing her sing a negro spiritual in ‘Someone to Love Me’, I’m ready for her to sit back and let the young girls make a come up.
Now with Rihanna, I have always have mixed feelings about her music. She release banging singles, and tragic albums. Makes NO sense to me. Also, I do not know how people will react to “We Found Love”, which is basically an instrumental, in my opinion. Who knows? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
‘Stronger’ was Mary’s wackest album. LAWD!
I was on the fence at first. But, given Mary’s record, iSuppose she WILL be the #1 girl again!
Taylor Swift is releasing her live album that same day, uhm so ………
I would say rih may have a shot, considering there’s no hype for mary, YET. Then again with marys loyal fan base and even more so just that the album is called ML2 is a big deal. It being a follow up to such a successful album w/ or w/o a hit single may actually be enough to blow rih out the water. You just never know these days
Mary J. Blige will win, are you out of your mind ?? Thinking that RIHANNA (Who don’t even outsell someone like Beyonce -_-”) will sell more on the first week than MARY J. FUCKING BLIGE ???

Queen Mary has record breaking album sales…Rihanna doesn’t.
Mary was the first black female to sell over 700,000 albums in one week…not Rihanna.
Mary has 2 of the largest top 10 first week sales of ALL time by a female artist…not Rihanna.
Mary is the first black female artist to sell 1 million albums in two weeks…not Rihanna.
Mary has 4 number one albums….Rihanna has zero.
Mary last album sold 330K first week…not Rihanna’s. Remind you…Mary didn’t even have a top 50 hit while Rihanna had several number one songs.
Mary’s perfume sold 60,000 bottles in 6 hours…another record…Rihanna’s didn’t.
Shall I continue?
Mary is the Queen of R&B. Some talentless monkey could NE’ER come for Mary’s iconic pussy lips.
Unless Rihanna comes out with some fresh and new material like she did with Loud. She will flop. Plus, half of her fans dont even bu her albums, but love her so much.. Rihanna needs Trent. Literally..
Mary may have the bigger first week sales, but Rihannas album will be more successful.
DEAD XD @MJBDICTIONARY up above LOL.
Rihanna’s album may sell more in the long run but thats only because she’s rushing her releases while she still has buzz. MARY j on the other hand been holding it down for YEARS and she makes music people will love and remember for generations later. I think people need to stop thinking high “sales” mean the artist is better or talented than the other. No matter what Mary has nothing to prove she just making great music, Rihanna is just…..riding the pop music wave and i doubt that years from now anybody will be checking for her music like people still check for Mary’s “whats the 411″ & “share my world” &”My life” albums.
First of all you cant compare Mary J Blige to Rihanna. Who is Rihanna? Mary J 20 yrs. and still counting.Mary has her own foundation, perfume, record label, and artist.Mary has done the work. And all the naysayers will see Mary is going to shut it down. They are trying to create tension. There is none Mary doesnt back down. She changed the date three times for a reason. My Life was released November 1994.Know the facts.#1..Albums..Legend Award..Grammys(10) in multiple genres.Sold out world tours..And I heard My Life 2 will be released December..So will see..I doubt Marys worried..And she does have a single out 25/8..Google it.
