Damage Control: Simon Cowell Denies Calling Beyonce & Lady Gaga Boring
Media outlets erupted in chatter earlier this week when it was reported that Simon Cowell had accused Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry of being “boring”. However, mastermind of ‘The X Factor (US)’ has slammed those claims and issued a statement in which he praised Beyonce by calling her “the biggest star of the last 20 years”.

“This was completely misreported. It’s the complete opposite in fact,” Cowell’s rep told RadarOnline.com exclusively Thursday. “Simon is a massive fan of both and he always refers to them as amongst the artists he most admires. He thinks they are two of the most interesting, talented and relevant artists today”.
We got some comments from the mogul about both megastars, and in both cases, the always-blunt Cowell had the highest words of praise for each of them.
“It’s like they’ve all been bred to take over the world and dominate everything in entertainment,” Cowell told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “They are unbelievable, these girls.”
On Beyonce, Cowell told us exclusively she’s “the biggest star we’ve seen in 20 years; we’re seeing sort of the rise of the super female pop star. It’s like a different breed. Beyonce has that.”
As for Gaga, Cowell told us exclusively that he thinks she “has The X Factor. She’s smart … [and] has real ambition. She is a total, utter star … You have to be open and embrace this level of expression. You hope to God that you can find someone like her.”
“I think somebody like Lady Gaga defines exactly what we’re looking for,” he continued. “She’s both talented and interesting. She’s worked it all out for herself. You never get the feeling somebody is controlling her. Lady Gaga is the most relevant pop artist in the world at the moment. I’ve met her. She is very smart. I like her.”

Beyonce is “the biggest star we’ve seen in 20 years”? This is one fo the few instances where I have to disagree with Cowell. Although she is definitely not as talented as Beyonce, Britney Spears is definitely the entertainer who emerged after 1991 and had the biggest impact on popular culture. In fact, after only 3 years, many may argue that even Gaga is more popular than Beyonce.
Nonetheless, I am glad that Cowell took the time to clarify his comments. However, it is quite comical that he did not deny calling Katy Perry boring.

I must disagree with @Punch. you can’t compare Britney’s sales to Beyoncé’s, because Britney has been solo longer and has more albums out than Beyoncé. And if you want to compare album sales, then let’s inclination Destiny’s Child album sales, and Beyoncé SLAYS Britney’s with over 170mil to date. And Britney at her peak wasn’t selling out concerts in 22seconds and performing at inaugurations, and having dinner with presidents, and able to take a year long break and come back out with an album that is #1 around the world for 3weeks straight. I love Britney, HUGE FAN of hers, but Britney < Beyoncé. No shade.

How do you define a ‘big star’?During 2000-03,Britney sure was like the biggest thing ever.What after that?None of her last 3 albums have sold too well.Bey remained constant.Also,being a big star is not all about popularity.Bey as a person+her music is more respected in the society+industry.If Brit stands up to say something,no1 would care,she’s seen as a joke.Everyone pays attention and takes notes when Bey says something.Bey is #18 on most powerful celebs list.Brit is no where in the list of 100.Bey sells out concerts within seconds,Brit struggles even after having acts like Nicki touring with her.And about Gaga,she’s more popular b/c she’s at her peak.
Beyonce success was gradual ! and it is consistant , 15 years into her career and she’s still going STRONG and finding new ways to top her past accomplishments and achievements , like a successful acting careers , Britney and Mariah have tried that to no avail( and no ! Precious doesn’t count , Beyoncé was on the movies posters and her name was in big letters under or over the titles , movie goers were going to see HER in the movies ! they KNEW she was in it ! )
Beyoncé on the other hand was in many blockbusters and was even nominated for Golden Globes among other awards . You’re like FAUX News , we don’t want/need you to say that Beyonce is the greatest thing that ever happened to music/entertainement or that she shits on any other female artist, but this fallacies and unneccessary remarks have to stop . Beyonce never had consecutive failed attempt at success with flop albums ( Glitter – Charmbracelet – E=MC² – Memoirs ), Beyonce never was in movies that grossed 10% of their budgets … I have absolutely nothing against you , Britney or Billie Frank , but i want you to stop with the non sense , if you were to stop talking about one of those 3 woman , only one of them would affect your traffic negatively and we ALL know who it is . Why can’t you just like both Trent? Mariah is a great singer and so is Beyonce. They have different styles where Beyonce is more of a total package singing and dancing whereas Mariah is just a singer. Beyonce’s and Mariah’s acting have come a long way. I know your site is still new but you used to uplift Mariah without tearing down Beyonce in the process. Such a shame…
I agree. 20 years goes back to 1991. Mariah is a bigger star than Beyonce; Britney was bigger than Beyonce; Eminem is bigger than Beyonce. Madonna, Janet Jackson, Celine Dion….the list goes on. Currently I would say Lady Gaga is bigger, Rihanna is bigger……

Nope! Bey has outsold Brit since DIL came out, in terms of singles and albums.
Britney has been underperforming since ITZ, only flash in the pan successful singles keep her stans happy nowadays.
Please Bey is a huge flop now, nobody cares about her, thats why all of her singles and video’s are forgettable failures. She’s not even in the top 3 of biggest names in the last 20 years, please. She must’ve paid Simon to retract that true statement. She is boring, and mediocre and so is her music. And people are finally realizing it.
