JoJo grabbed the public’s attention earlier this year with her cover of Drake’s ‘Marvins Room’ and now she has tackled a tune by his onetime collaborator Rihanna. The singer performed her own version of the Barbadian’s monster hit ‘What’s My Name?’ at the Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore that was more R&B than the Reggae Fusion original.
However, JoJo isn’t planning to cover other artists’ music for the rest of her career. She plans to release her Pop/Rock-inspired ‘Jumping Trains’ LP, which is led by the single ‘Disaster’, early next year.
Watch JoJo perform Rihanna’s ‘What’s My Name?’ below:
What made JoJo’s version of this tune great was the fact that she didn’t try to imitate Rihanna’s West Indian twang and she made it her own. Of course, the most enjoyable facet of the performance was that JoJo could actually sing and that automatically made her rendition better than original by default.
