The ‘Michael Jackson Tribute Concert’ was dominated by divas yesterday so it was only fitting that Leona Lewis contributed her soaring vocals to the festivities. However, unlike Beyonce who rocked from a distance with an uptempo number, the songbird toned things down with haunting renditions of ‘I’ll Be There’ and ‘Stranger in Moscow’.
Interestingly, ‘I’ll Be There’ was also famously covered by Lewis’ idol, Mariah Carey, in the 1990s. Watch Lewis in action below:
As usual, Lewis was technically flawless. Although it would have been interesting to see her tackle one of Jackson’s more lively songs, such as ‘I Want You Back’ (a Jackson 5 hit), she still managed to do the songs justice in her own unique way.
I’ll Be There was just amazing. And that #A5 in SIM. <33
The ending for I’ll be there was great, so effortless. However her voice has the effect of putting people on sleep mode, you need to hear her reaching the high notes otherwise is a damn snoozefest.
I’m sorry she did nothing for me on Stranger in Moscow — I can’t help but comparing her vocals to the king and she’s just… nothing. Michael sang this song with true emotion and passion.

would have been amazing if Leona and Michael duet, oh well at least we know when Leona sings an MJ song his spirit is there singing along with her
