Mariah Carey and John Legend received rave reviews for their live duet of the classic ‘With You I’m Born Again’ at the 2005 Vh1 Save the Music Foundation gala and now the pair of teamed up again. However, the record is not an entirely new song. Rather, Legend has joined Carey for a remix of her tune ‘When Christmas Comes’ from last year’s ‘Merry Christmas II You’.
Carey previously hinted that she would rerelease her ‘Merry Christmas II You’ album later this year. The diva is also working on a new studio album for release in 2012 with the assistance of Randy Jackson, Big Jim Wright, Da Brat and Jermaine Dupri.
There is no word regarding if Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ duet with Justin Bieber will be included on the special edition of ‘Merry Christmas II You’. Watch Carey preview her ‘When Christmas Comes’ duet with Legend below:
Similar to her ill-fated ‘Angels Advocate’ remix album, it is likely that Carey recorded this remix while she developed the originals. Regardless, despite being certified gold in the US, ‘Merry Christmas II You’ was grossly under-promoted and she did nothing to market the project outside of the US. Hence, it will be great for the record to get the push that it deserves.
Yet, with new music scheduled for 2012, Carey is risking over-saturating her market with too many new releases. Yes, Christmas music has a special context and is generally not counted as a mainstream release but having too much material from Carey on the airwaves in the coming months would not help her cause for a comeback.
On the other hand, Bieber is also planning to debut his ‘Believe’ album early next year and his ‘Under the Mistletoe’ record is currently receiving a massive promotional push. It seems that careful timing by their labels will have to set the pace for their impending projects because both Bieber and Carey are in a dangerous position, especially the latter who is in greater need of a hit.
I wasn’t expecting this. woah. kinda excited to hear more.
love it!!!!! Mariah Carey & John Legend on the same track = Pure Winning
John Legend is a fantastic singer and I’m sure he added something different (and great!) to the song. Not very sure about Mariah because it seems she didn’t do new vocals or arrangements to the this version which I think is disappointing. However I’ll wait until the full song comes out.
She looks great on the vid btw!
under-promoted, she was everywhere, released numerous videos and even had a tv special???
mariah’s face is starting to look real tight
Mariah is currently under contract with IDJ/Universal for one more album, I think she’s just re-releasing this so fulfill that one more album and then head over to Epic/SONY with L.A Reid
sounds great i love when Christmas comes
I love when Christmas Comes!! It is one of my fav tracks from the last Christmas album. The collaboration Mariah and John did for “With You I’m Born Again” was amazing and I think it should have been recorded as a single!!! I have always believed they should have done more music together….hmmmmmm…. actually in addition to “When Christmas Comes” I think it would be great if they did a few jazz numbers or some old tunes like “Pennies From Heaven”, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and etc.
They should record an r&b duet they are great together.
The QUEEN!!!!
