As the tide of the music industry continued to change in favour of the younger generation, Rihanna has achieved what many thought would have been impossible – she has scored her 11th #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100. In fact, the Pop star has matched the accomplishments of Whitney Houston in the record books.
Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ climbed to #1 on the Hot 100 this week. This feat has made her only the 7th act in the history of the tally to score 11 chart-toppers and tied her with Houston, who last reached the top of the lineup with ‘Exhale (Shoop Shoop)’ in 1995.
However, The Beatles still outrank all other artists on the all-time Hot 100 list as they clocked a stunning 20 #1 songs throughout their careers. Additionally, diva Mariah Carey is ranked in 2nd position – 1st among solo acts – with 18 chart-leaders. The icon achieved 14 #1 singles in the 1990s – more than any other performer – and notched her 18th #1 song in 2008 with ‘Touch My Body’.
